Becoming A Referee

Officiating is a critical part of our game and is a responsibility which cannot be taken lightly. Becoming a referee is by no means difficult, however there are very specific criteria which must be met in order to become a qualified referee.

There is a short course to initially enter the District level position of the referee hierarchy. This course has both a written information section and a real life practical element which familiarizes you with all the aspects of basic refereeing. After that it's up to you as far as you want to take it, all the way to international referee if you wish.

Courses are arranged through SNO and must be applied for by your nearest club. Clubs may choose to work together to hold clinics which are mutually beneficial for everyone. All the forms and information are located on the SNO website. Please contact your closest club representative to begin the process of getting a referee clinic in your area.

Frank Carpino is the District Referee Coordinator for Soccer Northwest and he can be reached via email at snosoccer@tbaytel.net

Referee Clinics

When there are enough interested people to hold an entry level District referee clinic, decide on a date and location and then completely fill out the form and send it to Soccer Northwest Ontario. SNO then approves it and sends the application on to the OSA where they will organize a qualified instructor, usually from our region to come and give the clinic. The clinic application form is found within the OSA's website.
